“It’s Better to Cry Wolf Now Than to Wait…”: The fact that oil is finite, alone, should be reason enough to not rely on it so heavily, so why argue when or how its going to deplete? [Overly simplistic thinking, maybe...]
Hitchcock’s Vertigo: 1958 vs. 2003
Green Berets Prefer Biodiesel
George Monbiot
The Journal of Short Film: Vol. 1 available starting October 4. I very much like the concept of this project, and the first vol. looks to hold some promise, judging by the brief synopses.

Seven Samurai at the Film Forum: Seven Samurai will be playing for an extra week from September 28 - October 4 due to popular demand. Nice.
Chain: a film by Jem Cohen: “…Chain’s formidable power rests on the notion that these unlovely incrustations of worldwide anti-regionalism bespeak a fundamentally dehumanizing global economy..” Sounds like a keeper. Thanks Wiggins!
ICE9: New Susumu Hirasawa album: A broken English description of his new work claims: “The first and the last time(?) guitar-featured album in Hirasawa’s style.” Going by the free sample, the guitar is definitely prominent… sounds pretty different from past Hirasawa for sure. Slow pace, less electronic influence… but pretty good. Not much singing, either. But there is chanting (!).
‘March of the Conservatives: Penguin Film as Political Fodder:’ (Forgot to link this one earlier…) Typical Republican move? It seems so amazing how this group can analyze almost anything and use it as some kind of promotional tool for their own agenda.
Still We Ride: I finally got to see this Critical Mass documentary at the Coatesville Film Fest over the weekend, and it’s really excellent. I love stuff like this, because it’s so much more than being just about people’s rights to ride their bikes in NY. It’s more about the little guy versus the system, free form vs. constrained order, media manipulation, etc. Good stuff.
The Oil Drum: Here’s a site that focuses almost exclusively on peak oil topics, and all that depressing stuff that comes with it.
Dancing Rabbit: Open house: DR Ecovillage is having an open house. Go. If you can.
8 in 10 want drivers to drop SUVs: I guess it takes the most extreme of cirumstances for people to wake up… But then again, there’s still this: “Almost six in 10 now say exploring for new sources of energy [read: more oil] is more important than protecting the environment.” Maybe some people still need some waking up after all…
Jeff Vail’s A Theory of Power: Jeff Vail’s excellent book is now available for download as a PDF, and it’s also been wikified on The Anthropik Network. Not bad. This is crucial reading.
ONE OF THE WORST DISASTERS TO HIT THE US
Daniel Quinn’s Tales of Adam, coming November 1, 2005: This completely came out of nowhere. It’s not even mentioned on Quinn’s official site, and I probably wouldn’t have even known about if I didn’t receive an e-mail from B&N. Well, considering Quinn is my favorite writer, I’m greatly looking forward to this. It’s probably his last book, as well. [Also, note: Tales of Adam was originally slated for a 2003 fall release... you can read the unfortunate debacle here.]
Coatesville Film Festival: The schedule is now posted. My own two videos [Green / Does the World Need to Be Saved?] look to be playing somewhere between 3-4 p.m. and at 6 p.m. This is the first year of the festival… should be interesting.
Lazy environmentalist
Oil Dependence Got You Down?
Gore on Katrina, Global Warming: It’s refreshing to hear a politician speak like he has some real decent sense, priorities, and a spine.
Film Threat’s Summer of Stink 2005: Only because it’s fun to complain about how much disposable crap Hollywood spends millions of dollars on each year…
Some solid articles from Common Dreams:
The end of oil: Reports like this are nothing new, and pretty much common sense at this point… But, damn… When will people wake up to the fact that we won’t be living the way we are now in 50 years? [Very probably, unless half the world can ditch the current consumption-centric mindset.]
Ending the impunity of the Bush White House: What more can be said…
Notes on bad weather and good government: Centralized government never works…
Vicious circle of CO2 emissions: Add it to the stack of constanstly increasing environmental issues…
And, just because, here is a book recommendation in light of these links…
Related to yesterday’s mention of The Future of Food film…
Bitter Greens Journal: Sustainable agriculture, etc.
Life begins at thirty: Specifically, this is very notable.
Eating New Jersey: Local eating in NJ.
Movies…
Wild Blue Yonder: This will be amazing. And listen to the great music samples.
